Keith recently had the opportunity to get LASIK! A company came to him and asked him if he would like to trade some signs for LASIK (for the record: trade=the best part of owning your own business). The trade wouldn't cover the entire procedure, but luckily for us, Keith's parents made a generous donation to the cause and we will not have to pay that much in the end. I am pretty jealous of Keith's fortune, but he has worn glasses/contacts since he was very little and I have only been wearing them since high school.
When it came down to the day of surgery, Keith wasn't nervous at all. I was a wreck. My sister graciously sacrificed our Friday Fun Day to watch our kids while I took care of Keith. When we got there, they put numbing drops in his eye, did another eye exam and wrote on his eyes with what looked like a sharpie marker. If you look closely at the above picture, you can see the tiny black dot they wrote on his eye. They also gave Keith a Vallium. I asked for one and they laughed. I wasn't kidding though.
That is a picture of Keith's foot in the operating room. I was not allowed to go inside.
Instead I got to watch the operation just outside the room. It was mildly disturbing, but very quick. It took less than 20 minutes.
Before I knew it, Keith was out! And very very loopy. The Vallium worked! He said if he were to do it over again, he wouldn't have taken it. He was like a vegetable.
A blurry picture, but there is Keith post-op. It was a success.
The worst part about getting LASIK is that you can't go to sleep right away after you are done and you have just taken a Vallium. Keith was a hoot on this drug. He was making me laugh so hard saying all sorts of funny stuff, ranging from Keith curse words (Keith isn't a curser, so most of them are just really weird words or half-curses), telling me that Jesus is real, stuff like that. By about 2 he was acting normal again. He had an appt that afternoon to make sure all was well and then we came home and he crashed. He slept from 6:30 that night until 8:00 the next morning. He got to wear cool eye patches all day and still has to wear them at night, but he can see! It really is a miracle. He felt completely back to normal the next day and even cleaned out the garage and took me on a date. He says he only takes the drops because you are supposed to, but doesn't even feel like he needs to. I have always said that Keith is Superman and now he has the X-ray vision to match. I am so grateful for his parents for helping out (and mine, as this is what we have asked for-for Christmas). What a blessing to be able to see!
