Spring Cleaning

Isn't my Griffey so cute (and covered in dirt)? I wish I could get a decent picture of how fantastic his eyes are. His eyelashes are seriously ridiculous. And he is so dang fun right now. And the best little cleaner-upper ever! Love that kid . . .

Anyways, I have begun some spring cleaning projects around here. We recently had a family night on self-reliance where the kids made their own piggy banks-saving (aka mission), spending (aka hoping for a trip to Chuck-E-Cheese), and tithing (10 % of what they earn goes to the church). This also means chore charts. The kids each have different jobs-putting their clothes in the laundry basket, setting and clearing the table at each meal, brushing their little teethies (with mom's help), and cleaning their toys every night before bed. In order to actually put their toys away, an overhaul of the playroom was in order. It was a disaster. This is what the closet looked like:
Since the closet doesn't have shelving yet and it is a pretty decent size, I decided to make it a little reading room. I moved in the hot pink couch and their books and it is a cozy little reading spot.
I used to clean the playroom once a week so I could vacuum it and so that I wouldn't lose a kid in there. I have since decided the kids were old enough to clean it each day and once a week was not often enough, obviously.
And some friends of ours gave us some of their old organizers (the metal you see on the bottom right of this picture is an awesome riding horse-also given to us). Isn't this so much better?
When I cleaned out the room I found 47 matchbox/hot wheel cars! I think they may have that many trains too. Obsessed much?

I have also cleaned out the pantry and have Leo's room on schedule for this week (got some new organizers from some friends again!). Luckily I cleaned and organized on major overload before Leo was born-so all of the closets in the house are still organized. More than anything, I need to decorate. I seriously hate decorating-mostly because I am no good at it-unless I copy an idea out of a magazine. :)

Also scheduled for this week: finish disinfecting and lysoling everything we own now that Leo is better. I don't ever want a sick baby again (which is just convincing me more that I want to move into a cave).

The play room looks spectacular! Gotta love piggy banks and chore charts. What a good mom you are!
